The Rose Suite

The tour is self-guided and so you can pick and choose the artists you wish to visit. It is a rare opportunity to see where artists create their art work and talk about the creative process.

The R. R. Thompson House B & B is located in Carlton, which is a convenient location to visit the studios throughout the county.  We still have availability for both weekends.

A few of the artists participating this year are Marilyn Affolter, photographer; Gene Davis, photographer; Doug Roy, papercarving and drawing; and Terry Peasley, water color painting.  Cost of the tour is $7 for all six days.  A tour admission button can be purchased at any of the participating studios.

Carre Heineck First in Women's Field

Runners in the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon were welcomed with applause, medals and refreshments at the race’s end point in Carlton.  The race was held Sunday, September 4.  Cheers went up for Mario Mendoza of Bend, the fastest in the men’s field.  Second place went to Tahir Chakisso of Clackamas.

Carre Heineck of Portland, the 2010 defending champion, was impressive with another win in the women’s field.  Second place went to Natalie Bak, also of Bend.  Congratulations to the winners and all the race participants.

Gleaming Gold Medals

The R. R. Thompson House hosted six runners – three women and three men.  All completed the race and received a gleaming gold medal and something to brag about when they return to work!

Among the artists/studios on hand will be Art Glass by Dianne; Doug Roy, papercarver; Karen Wright, jewelry; Terry Peasley Studio and Tin Man.  Last summer’s event hosted 65 artists and this year’s Walk will be bigger and better, according to organizers.

There will be entertainment throughout the weekend with some of the top muscians from the northwest appearing on the stage.  An antique car show will be held in an area adjacent to the art exhibits, and a quilt show can be viewed at the entrance to the park.

Food from 15 top area restaurants will be available for purchase; wine from Yamhill-Carlton area wineries will be available by the glass, bottle or case.

Walk in the Park is an exciting opportunity to see a wide variety of beautiful art by some of the most accomplished artists in the country.

Carlton Welcomes Visitors

Lavender Field

Yamhill Lavender Festival and Plein Air Art Show is scheduled for next weekend, Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10th.  The R. R. Thompson House in Carlton still has lodging available, and we are just a three miles from Yamhill.  The festival will include music, with Lisa Mann and Jeff Knudson, the Sonny Hess Band and the Rae Gordon Band among those performing.  Purchase fresh-cut bouquets, lavender plants or participate in a crafting class.    Enjoy the juried work of artists and crafters created in the lavender fields during the Plein Air Paint Out.  The event will be held at Beulah Park in the quaint town of Yamhill.  Food and refreshments will be available. There is no admission charge.

Carlton, Oregon was among the towns buzzing with activity throughout the weekend.  Visitors enjoyed fine wine, food, music and hospitality offered by various businesses around the town.

This year Willamette Valley wineries donated a portion of proceeds to Ecotrust’s Farm to School Programs.  The programs work to promote more healthy, locally grown food choices at schools in the region.
