Now in its 21st year, the Amity Daffodil Festival at the Amity Elementary School (300 Rice Lane) runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 21-22.  A daffodil show with a huge variety of daffodils, sponsored by the Oregon Daffodil Society, is a highlight of the event.  Public viewing of the displays starts at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

The festival also offers “… An art show, commemorative postal cancellation, dinner, gardening expert presentations, kids’ activities, plant sale, self-guided tour to a local daffodil farm in bloom, vineyards, alpaca farm and other local attractions, self-guided historic walk of Amity and volkswalks.” (newsregister.com)

The poet Wordsworth paid tribute to the daffodil:

“They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”

The R. R. Thompson House Bed and Breakfast in Carlton has availability during Amity Daffodil Festival weekend.  Spring is a wonderful time to visit the Willamette Valley, where  flowering trees in pink and white compete with the brightly colored flowers for your attention!
